Speaking of
rumors, lies, and gossip, have you heard the latest about...?
Actually, I'm not gonna write about me getting rid of the dishwashers
in the church; though relatives really caught my attention when they assumed - love that word
for its metaphorical value - the rumor/lie/gossip was that I was getting rid of
all the folks who run the big dishwasher in the church's big kitchen.
Uh, we've got
more kitchens and dishwashers (machines and people) than the local
Teamsters clubhouse.
While I'm still
reeling from thinking some people think I think about dishwashers...
Yeah, I pray
every night, "Jehovah, I beg Thee to grant knowledge,
discernment, and wisdom unto me about dishwashers in the church..."
Whoa.
Anyway, this
edition ain't about that...or the soteriological significance of grammar.
I've had an
inspiration/indigestion about rumors, lies, and gossip.

As I've been scratching the surface of Holy Scripture as I've been scratching the surface of my relationship with Jesus, I've discovered a connection
that most of ya'll probably made long before I was rebirthed with Eugene,
Chuck, Jeff, and Ken in Montana back in October 2011.
Have you ever
noticed how God, uh, really, really, really doesn't like rumors, lies, and
gossip?
It's all over
Holy Scripture - even making the big ten.
Now here's the
connection that I missed because I was spending too much time in a
religion about Jesus at the expense of a relationship with Him.
What did Jesus
call Satan?
The father of
lies.
Ouch.
In other words,
while God is the Source, Starter, and Sovereign of the truth, the whole truth,
and nothing but the truth, Satan is the source, starter, and sovereign of
rumors, lies, and gossip.
Specifically,
when we spread rumors, lie, and gossip, we are showing more kinship to Satan
than Jesus.
Gulp.
And when we
continue to spread rumors, lie, and gossip apart from confessing 'em, repenting
from 'em, and increasingly eliminating 'em from our lives, it proves we're
getting closer and closer and closer to Satan and farther and farther and farther
away from Jesus.
Apocalyptic!

I just thought
you might like to know that as you look into the mirror with me and
allow/encourage your congregation, family, government, candidates for the big one
in November, and all of the below to catch their reflections.

I guess the discipline of Eph 4:29 is best . . . and NO it does not apply only to potty mouth . . . "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."
Gossip is destructive and it is a choice. Those who choose to whisper and complain as a lifestyle should put Eph 4:29 on their mirror . . . and seek to edify, not tear down.

Now I know why I don't like politicians very much--they're always in league with Satan in their comments, commercials, etc.!!!!
