Why People Like to Fight So Much

While I may be wrong, I’m convinced people like to fight sooooooo much because of two reasons.

First, people who like to fight sooooooo much act more like the Adamsons than Christians.

Second, people who like to fight sooooooo much aren’t close enough to Jesus to stop fighting.

Galatians 5 reports people who are intimate with God show signs of intimacy with God like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, humility, and self-control.  The more intimate a person is with God, the more those qualities dominate character.  Conversely, people who like to fight aren’t close enough to God to have their behavior dominated, more than less, by those qualities.

Simply, people who like to fight sooooooo much aren’t close to God.

I’ll never forget one of the most disappointing experiences of my life and ministry.

An elder came to see me in the morning before that evening’s session meeting.

She asked, “Weeeeeeel, are there going to be any juicy things at tonight’s meeting?”

I said, “Well, I know ___ and ___ are really on a collision course over ___.  I’m afraid I’m going to have to be the referee tonight after they get started.”

She said while clapping, “Oh, goodie!  I just love a good fight!”

            People like to fight.

It’s true; and we know it.

Been on Facebook or Twitter lately?

I think some people think they’re guests on O’Reilly or think they’re O’Reilly!

Radio and television talk shows along with meetings of all kinds and even conversations over meals have become yelling matches.

James 4: “Where do you think your fighting and endless conflicts come from?  They come because you want your own way and fight when you don’t get it.”

Yes, people like to fight; and sometimes, too often, that includes you and me.

            So what’s the answer?

The answer to every question is Jesus!

If we’re always fighting, we can’t be that close to Jesus.

Sooooooo if we really want to stop fighting, we’ll get closer to Jesus.

            Yes, it’s that simple…and saving.
