Why I Preach
I don’t preach so people leave at 11 and say, “I don’t know what he said but he made me feel good about myself.”
No, I preach to remind everyone and especially me that He is Lord and deserves our worship in gratitude for everything He has done for us in time and forever by grace through faith in Jesus.
If I didn’t really love people instead of wanting their fickle favor, I wouldn’t bother to tell them with Buechner that they’re going to hell without Jesus: “A prophet’s quarrel with the world is deep-down a lover’s quarrel. If they didn’t love the world, they probably wouldn’t bother to tell it that it’s going to hell. They’d just let it go.”
I don’t want people to feel good about their insults to His holiness and injuries to His family.
I want people to want to get better and love Him by loving like Him with grace, mercy, and forgiveness wrapped in agape.
I’m with Luther when he said, in effect, “If you can show me that I’m wrong by Jesus, Holy Scripture, and common sense enlightened by the Holy Spirit who never contradicts Jesus by the book, go for it. If not, then you can go to hell.
Here I stand. I cannot do otherwise. God save me.”
Jerry is right! I really care or I wouldn’t tell the truth according to Jesus by the book. If I didn’t care, I’d just push for the superficial and disingenuous “like,
like” kudos of posers polluting pulpits, pews, and politics that are making people twice as fit for hell as they are themselves with any connection to Jesus by the
book being coincidental.
Yes, I really care.
That’s why I preach.
Or as I tell my fuma friends, “Life is too short to smoke a turd!”
“If you want to stand strong, stand with Jesus!”
BLESSINGS AND LOVE!
