Dr. Robert R. Kopp's Biography

 

  • Born on March 2, 1952 in Washington, D.C.

  • Graduate of King’s College (A.B., maxima cum laude, 1974), Princeton Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity, 1977), and Drew University (Doctor of Ministry 1982).

  • Attended the Ecumenical Study Program in Heidelberg, Germany (1974) which included studies in Old Testament, New Testament, and Christian-Marxist dialogue along with study tours to the World Council of Churches in Geneva and Gregorian in Rome.

  • Made six independent study tours to Israel and Sinai beginning in 1982.

  • Served as an adjunct professor of expository preaching at Nazarene Theological Seminary beginning in 1982.

  • Articles published in several newspapers and journals.  Sermons published in several periodicals including Preaching, Pulpit Digest, and Vital Sermons of the Day.  Praying like Jesus, an exposition of the Lord’s Prayer, was published by Pedestal Press in 1986.  Featured in Great Preaching – 1992, 1993, 1994 (The Preaching Library) and Abingdon Preaching Annual (1995-1999).  Golf in the Real Kingdom (2000), Don’t Forget This! (2000), and God’s Top 10 List (2001) were published by CSS Publishing Company.  15 Secrets in Life and Ministry (2004) was published by Impact Christian Books.

  • Served as Chairman of Pittsburgh Presbytery’s Evangelism and Congregational Development Unit, Member of General Council and Executive Presbyter Search Committee, President of Valley High School Wrestling Boosters, President of New-Kensington-Arnold Clergy Association, and appointed to Youth Commission by Westmoreland County Juvenile Court.  Served on Washington Presbytery’s Committee on Ministry, Preparation for Ministry, and represented presbytery as reader of denominational ordination examinations.  Serves on Blackhawk presbytery’s General Council, Preparation for Ministry, and chairs the Worship Committee.

  • Served as pastor of churches in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, North Carolina, Missouri, and Illinois ranging in size from 100 to 2600.

  • Tony Campolo has said “Good sermons are hard to come by.  But Bob Kopp comes by them with uncanny regularity.”

  • Eagle Scout without palms, Order of the Arrow (Brotherhood), B-tennis player, and 8-12 handicap golfer (addicted).

  • Currently serving as Senior Pastor at the First Presbyterian Church in Belvidere, IL.
